Run your first script

Create an account, install Kawaii, run a line of Luau, and save a file.

Create your account

Start on the account page. It gives you your account ID as a file to download, then checks your copy. Keep the file private: you need the ID inside it for the next two steps.

Install Kawaii

Kawaii needs Android 8 or newer. Download the launcher, open the APK, and allow installs from this source if Android asks. Sign in to the launcher with your account ID. It downloads the latest Kawaii, checks its size and SHA-256, and hands it to the Android installer. When that finishes, it offers a Launch button.

Run a line of Luau

Open Kawaii and enter the same account ID when it asks. Join a game, then open the Kawaii workspace with its floating button if it is hidden. Phones start in Basic mode and larger screens in Expert; both have an editor and an Execute button. Paste this into the editor and tap Execute:

Run a line of Luau
Luau
print("Hello from Kawaii!")

The text appears in Kawaii's console. Output redirection is on by default; you can change it in Settings → Environment.

Save and read a file

Scripts keep data in the workspace folder, /storage/emulated/0/kawaiilua/workspace. Paths in file functions are relative to it, so this creates hello.txt there and reads it back:

Save and read a file
Luau
writefile("hello.txt", "Saved by my first script")
print(readfile("hello.txt"))

You can also find the file in Kawaii under Files, in the Workspace tab.
